Reducing Our Carbon Footprint: EcoSort’s Upgraded Baler
WRITTEN BY KATE GISLASON – SUSTAINABILITY ENGAGEMENT LEAD
At EcoCentral, we’re driven by a mission to make sustainably-focused choices across all facets of our operations. We’re excited to highlight a significant milestone from our EcoSort operation. In our efforts to upgrade our Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) baler, we didn’t just focus on costs; we placed a strong emphasis on minimising our environmental impact from a carbon reduction perspective.
When selecting a new baler for our Materials Recovery Facility (MRF), we prioritised optimisation of bale weight and adherence to specifications. This careful selection process has yielded a remarkable increase in container load weights, which, in turn, significantly reduces freight greenhouse gas emissions per tonne of material transported.
Our upgraded baler boasts enhanced compression capabilities, which not only boost overall efficiency but also reduce the need for overseas-sourced strapping wire. By doing so, we lessen our dependence on imported materials and contribute to a more sustainable supply chain.
In addition to the environmental benefits, the new baler aligns perfectly with our upgraded MRF requirements. This alignment has allowed us to streamline our sorting lines, resulting in enhanced overall plant efficiency. The improvements ensure that our operations are not only more effective but also more environmentally friendly.
At EcoCentral, every decision we make reflects our dedication to sustainability. The upgrades at EcoSort are just one example of how we’re working to meet and exceed sustainability goals. We’re proud of the strides we’ve made and remain committed to finding innovative solutions that benefit both our operations and the planet.
