ecosortA large semi-automated processing plant for the yellow-bin recycling we collect from the region.

ecoshopA shop where we sell checked-over reusable goods supplied by our Resource Recovery Centres.

MEET OUR TEAM

Executive Team

Craig Downie

Chief Executive Officer

Appointed as EcoCentral’s CEO in 2018, Craig previously served as the company’s Operations Manager. As CEO, he is responsible for providing overall direction and leadership, ensuring EcoCentral’s success both now and in the future. Before joining EcoCentral, Craig held various management roles at Heinz-Watties in New Zealand. With an engineering background and extensive experience in operations management, manufacturing, and processing, Craig brings a wealth of expertise to his leadership role.

Carol Allen

People and Capability Manager

Carol is responsible for providing leadership and guidance to EcoCentral through its People and Culture systems and processes with a focus on leadership, learning and development, attraction and retention, and diversity and inclusion. In her role she is also responsible for the management of Health, Safety & Quality systems and supports the maintenance of ISO accreditation in both areas.
Carol has gained her experience within New Zealand across manufacturing, importing, public health and the tourism sectors.

Brandon Craine

Commercial Manager

Brandon is responsible for the leadership of the stakeholder engagement, commercial, sales, marketing and sustainability activities of EcoCentral. Brandon brings a diverse and extensive commercial background, with experience spanning the energy sector, social housing, vehicle manufacturing, construction, and animal breeding. One of Brandon’s key roles is to build strong relationships with key stakeholders and customers, to ensure contractual arrangements are developed to provide mutually beneficial outcomes for everyone involved.

Vaughan Whitehead

Chief Financial Officer

Vaughan has been EcoCentral’s CFO since 2016. He oversees financial health and strategy, including planning, risk management, budgeting, and reporting. Vaughan supports business growth with strategic insights and aligns financial goals with company objectives alongside the Executive Leadership Team (ELT). His expertise includes financial management, strategic planning, and risk mitigation. Vaughan excels in budget management and financial analysis, leading the finance team to ensure optimal performance and efficiency.

Rob Wilson

Operations Manager

Since 2019, Rob has been the Operations Manager for EcoCentral Limited, overseeing three Refuse Transfer Stations, Resource Recovery Centres, a Materials Recovery Facility (MRF), and the EcoShop resale store. With over 15 years of industry experience, Rob ensures that EcoCentral actively contributes to transforming recycling and standardising kerbside discussions, providing practical solutions to minimise and avoid waste. Rob is dedicated to making waste management easy, promoting reuse, and supporting a circular economy in New Zealand.

Senior Leadership Team

Judith Adams

Finance Manager

Judith plays a crucial role in overseeing EcoCentral’s finance and reporting functions, ensuring compliance with top financial standards and deadlines. Her strong leadership of the finance team, along with her excellent analytical and organisational skills, make her a valuable asset. With a thorough understanding of accounting systems and processes, Judith consistently delivers high-quality financial management.

Wayne Hocking

EcoDrop Manager

Appointed as EcoDrop Manager after being with EcoCentral for 18 years, Wayne previously served as EcoSort Manager. In his current role, Wayne is responsible for overseeing the operations and management of the EcoDrop facilities, ensuring the continuation of sustainability efforts and contributions to the circular economy. With a long-standing commitment to driving sustainability, Wayne brings extensive experience in operations management to his new role. Outside of work, he is passionate about sports and values his strong sense of family.

Julie Radcliffe

EcoShop & Resource Recovery Manager

Jewels has been with EcoCentral for 20 years, beginning her journey as a retail assistant and working her way up through the ranks with the support of her managers. Today, she proudly leads an incredible team as the manager of the EcoShop and Resource Recovery Centres. Starting on the shop floor has significantly shaped Jewels’ approach, fostering a deep empathy for both staff and customers. This experience has given her skills which allowed her to understand the challenges and opportunities at every level of the organisation.

John Sandys

EcoSort Manager

John is responsible for overseeing operations at the Materials Recovery Facility as EcoSort Manager, having previously served as EcoSort Supervisor. In his role, John focuses on driving sustainability and contributing to the circular economy through EcoCentral’s initiatives. With a commitment to making a positive environmental impact, John brings a strong work ethic and dedication to achieving EcoCentral’s environmental goals. He has been with EcoCentral for 3 years, continuously working to enhance the facility’s role in sustainable resource management.

A Waste of Time –

Christchurch City Council brings school groups into our EcoSort facility, through the EcoDrop Resource Recovery Centres, and finishes their day at the EcoShop. On this learning-through-action programme, students learn about the reduce, reuse, and recycle aspects of the waste management hierarchy.
