From Diesel to Electric: Investing in Lower Emission Operations
WRITTEN BY BEN TAYLOR – SUSTAINABILITY LEAD

At EcoCentral we’re excited to have taken delivery of our first fully electric loader. This milestone marks the beginning of a transition from diesel to a fully electric loader fleet for EcoCentral.
Loaders are central to how we operate, moving large volumes of material across our EcoSort and EcoDrop sites. They currently contribute to over 50% of our operational greenhouse gas emissions which is the single biggest source as a consequence of them running entirely on diesel.
Introducing this electric loader in our operations is a meaningful step in our emission reduction journey on the path to achieving our 2030 emission reduction target.
The new loader is an XCMG XC968EV, a 19-tonne machine with a 282 kWh battery pack capable of delivering up to eight hours of run time per charge.
This is part of a multi year plan to replace our entire diesel loader fleet with electric alternatives to cut down our emissions. This move will also improve operational efficiency through reduced fuel costs.
This aligns with EcoCentral’s vision of an economically sustainable circular economy for New Zealand in which EcoCentral plays a leadership role.
We’re looking forward to reducing our greenhouse gas emissions!
