EcoCentral’s EcoShop and Briscoes & Rebel Sport: A Success Story in Sustainable Collaboration
WRITTEN BY KATE GISLASON – SUSTAINABILITY ENGAGEMENT LEAD
We are thrilled to share a remarkable success story from our latest collaboration. EcoCentral’s EcoShop has partnered with Briscoes and Rebel Sport to manage damaged and returned products from select stores—a project that is recognising valuable resources and making a significant environmental impact.
Before this initiative, damaged and returned items from Briscoes and Rebel Sport stores were often destined for landfill. Now, thanks to our collaborative efforts, these products are given a new lease on life. Our dedicated EcoShop team carefully sorts through the items, tests them for electrical safety, and determines whether they can be resold or if they require responsible recycling and disposal.
This partnership goes beyond waste reduction. It’s about promoting responsible disposal practices and encouraging the reuse of materials. By reselling items that are still functional and properly recycling those that aren’t, we are making strides toward a more sustainable and circular economy.
The impact of this collaboration has been substantial. Since the start of the trial, we have successfully diverted the equivalent of a 40-foot container’s worth of products from the landfill. But the benefits don’t stop there. The materials saved through this partnership have also contributed to filling 60 care packages, which have been distributed to families in need throughout Christchurch.
Our collaboration with Briscoes and Rebel Sport exemplifies how businesses can work together to reduce waste, promote reuse, and support the community. Together, we are making meaningful strides towards a circular economy, where resources are used and reused responsibly.
