EcoCentral’s Ongoing Support for Christchurch City Council’s Learning Through Action Programme

At EcoCentral, we’re proud to continue our support for the Christchurch City Council’s Learning through Action programme, “A Waste of Time – Hangaruatia.” For years, we’ve been committed to fostering sustainability and education, and a key part of that commitment is offering free bus transportation for schools participating in this impactful initiative.

We recognise that transportation costs can often prevent schools from taking advantage of educational field trips. By providing free buses, we help eliminate this barrier, ensuring that all students can experience the valuable, hands-on learning opportunities that come with visiting our facilities.

EcoCentral is dedicated to promoting waste reduction, reuse, and recycling education. The “A Waste of Time – Hangaruatia” programme, facilitated by Christchurch City Council’s educators, offers students enriching experiences at our key facilities:

  • EcoSort: Where students see the sorting process and learn about the importance of the waste hierarchy.
  • EcoDrop: An interactive site that educates students on resource recovery and disposal.
  • EcoShop: A practical example of reuse, showcasing how items can be repurposed and given a second life.

These field trips are more than just educational—they provide memorable experiences that inspire students to be environmentally conscious. By seeing how waste is managed and understanding the recycling process, students gain a deeper appreciation for sustainability and are motivated to make positive changes in their own lives.

EcoCentral’s ongoing support for the Learning through Action programme underscores our long-term commitment to sustainability and education. We believe in empowering the next generation with the knowledge and experiences they need to make a difference in their communities. We encourage schools to take advantage of this opportunity and participate in the “A Waste of Time – Hangaruatia” programme. Together, we can continue to make a lasting impact on our environment and inspire future leaders in sustainability.
